DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT
In January I rang in 2018 in Kapoho, Hawaii with memorable times spent months before the June 4th destruction of Green Lake and over 700 homes in and around the Kapoho Beach Lots and Vacationland communities. During my January visit I also filmed the PANGEA music video for Professor T and the East Side Shredders at the University of Hawaii Hilo Performing Arts Center. The project which was a blast to make, ended up being an omen while editing as rivers of lava flowed eastward from the Kilauea Volcano

All locations from my 2016 film Green Lake were effectively destroyed. Sitting unedited from a trip in 2015 was footage of Trever and RaVani for a planned retro-ish, film clip based music video for “Come In (The Water’s Fine)” by Technical Difficulties. As many of you know I have a long standing creative collaboration with TD and the shoot provided an opportunity to return to the property I filmed my first music video for TD ~ Sex is Easier - in 2001. Flash forward to 2015 while I was editing Green Lake, Trever Veilleux dusted off a concept he had for a song years before, which he thought was a good fit for my film Green Lake. I LOVE this song and it was a truly inspired fit with the film, capturing the darkness and humor, but I felt it’s positioning in the end credits of the film didn’t do it proper justice. So I’m thrilled to finally have this music video - not only to show my appreciation to one of my favorite bands, which is made up of some incredibly fine and talented people, but also to give viewers an opportunity to appreciate Green Lake which is no more.

My upmost appreciation to JC Bond for editing this music video. After working years on the film it was a struggle for me to break out of the narrative order - a case of being too close to it, but working with JC made it a breeze and I’m so pleased with the outcome.

So come in the water's fine. And remember, Horror Dwells Deep.

SONGWRITER TREVER VEILLEUX’S COMMENTARY:
I had this song, originally titled “Siren Song” kicking around for years, but for some reason I couldn’t figure out how to finish it. It had parts that I really liked, and that stuck with me, but something essential was missing and I eventually gave up on it. Then years later I was present for the filming of a few scenes of Derek’s film Green Lake, and I thought that the mood and lyrical content of Siren Song would be perfect for the movie. I sent Derek a demo of Siren Song and he apparently heard some potential there and encouraged me to finish it. The film Green Lake was the inspiration I needed to complete the song. I remember going swimming at the Wai O’pai tide pools with my daughter (which sadly no longer exist due to the same lava flow that destroyed Green Lake) and finishing the song very quickly while sitting on the lava rocks looking at the ocean, singing parts to myself and bouncing lyric ideas off my daughter.

LYRICS:
Come In (The Water's Fine) - Lyrics
I know the stories the seers like to tell
about the briny deep where all the evil creatures dwell
they will say they love you as they watch you bleed
they will rip your heart out so that they may feed

Yes I know that they will come for us all
try to turn back, try to stop but still your bound to fall
Yes I know they can twist your thoughts around
try to reach me try to catch me before I hit the ground

They're clutching at your ankles
They will pull you under
--Come in the water's fine
Panic takes its hold
--Come in the water's fine
They are in control
--Come in the water's fine

The sirens in the lake like to sing a pretty song
but you will never come back up if you stay down too long
they will say they love you as they watch you bleed
they will rip your heart out so that they may feed

Yes I know that they will come for us all
try to turn back, try to stop but still your bound to fall
Yes I know they can twist your thoughts around
try to reach me try to catch me before I hit the ground

They're clutching at your ankles
They will pull you under
--Come in the water's fine
Panic takes its hold
--Come in the water's fine
They are in control
--Come in the water's fine
Darkness all around you
--Come in the water's fine
Inky black surrounds you
--Come in the water's fine
the sirens they have found you
--Come in the water's fine
in their web they've bound you
--Come in the water's fine
