Directo'r Statement
The Curse of the Sacred Stone continues my love affair with the Big Island of Hawaii. I've had the opportunity to direct a number of music videos on the Big Island since working there on Planet of the Apes in 2001. Its scenic beauty and mystique continues to inspire me.

Having hiked the Puna trail near Shipman Beach I've always thought it would make for a unique and unspoiled filming location. I'm also a fan of the book The Obake Files by Glen Grant - a compilation of legends and ghost stories from the Hawaiian Islands. I've always been particularly drawn to the tales of people being cursed after taking lava rocks off of the islands and of encounters with the terrifying Night Marchers. Once you've explored some of the darker paths on the Big Island and become familiar with their history, it’s easy to get swept up in these legends. The sense of power and ancient worlds can be intoxicating.

I had worked with Gardner DeAguir a number of times on music videos for the Big Island Band, Technical Difficulties. Not only is Gardner a gifted guitar player, but also a born performer. I had so much fun working with Gardner, that I knew it was just a matter of time before we put him on the big screen. Gardner's involvement in "The Curse of the Sacred Stone" was a huge part of my inspiration and essential to the creation of the project.

The pieces finally came together when my longtime friends and I planned a trip to the Big Island in 2009. Before I found a career in filmmaking, we had created a number of off-the-wall films in college. The trip to Hawaii, being a reunion of sorts, presented an idyllic opportunity to create a homage not only to the short films I created years ago but also to the horror films that inspired me to pursue filmmaking.
