Your film has earned EARLY ACCEPTANCE and has been selected as one of the semi-finalist at the 2nd Annual SHOW OFF YOUR SHORT FILM FESTIVAL. I’d like to inform you that this year for SHOW OFF YOUR SHORT FILM FESTIVAL the selection process was very difficult. Having received over 300 submissions, I am proud to let you know that your film was considered to be one the best. Your film will screen at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood, California. If you haven’t sent us a press kit yet we now need a jpg photo from your movie for promotional use and for this year’s program.
Your screening time will be posted on the venue grid on the website no later than Friday, January 18th, 2007.

4th and 99 SCORES SCREENING AT THE 2007 FESTIVAL DE CANNES
Filmmakers focus efforts on upcoming feature project
Cannes, France -- May 7, 2007 – The Minor Prophets and Lazer Film Productions are pleased to announce the unveiling of their latest film, 4th and 99, at the Festival de Cannes Short Film Corner from May 16-27.
4th and 99, directed by Derek Frey, is written and stars David Amadio, Brian Gillin, Steve Kuzmick and Gil Damon.
The cast and crew of the film will be attending the festival from May 18-21. In addition to promoting 4th and 99, The Minor Prophets and Derek Frey seek support and funding for a comedic feature-length adaptation of their short film, We Were Boys. The screenplay for the project, Straight On Till Morning, will be completed by summer 2007.
The screenplay, Straight On Till Morning, centers on four male characters in their early-mid thirties all suffering from varying degrees of Peter Pan Syndrome. Unhappy in their adult roles, the friends conjure a Neverland in the woods of their youth, reliving the past at the expense of the present. When their regression takes on a frightening realism, threatening their safety and that of their loved ones, the men discover that happiness is best sought not in retreat, but in reconciliation of the past with the present, of fantasy with reality, of the child with the man.
The film, 4th and 99, tells the tale of all-state receiver Bobby Makefield, who just minutes after losing the biggest game of the year, takes to the turf again in a one-on-one overtime shocker. Driven to the edge by his referee father, Bobby squares off against the winning team’s golden boy—not to mention Mr. Makefield’s newest protégé—Tommy Johnson. To the whipping tune of an autumn wind, the boys perform a savage ballet, chopping feet and taking pain like the hard-muscle legends of yore. In the end, the only thing standing between Bobby and victory is the half-man, half-zebra on the sideline. Will Mr. Makefield spoil yet another big game for Bobby, or will the unfortunate son turn the tide and stiff-arm his way to redemption?
Derek Frey – Director
A
native of the Philadelphia suburbs, Derek relocated to Los Angeles and
worked on the short lived ABC sitcom The Faculty. Since 1996 he has
assisted film director
Tim Burton
on such projects as
Mars Attacks!,
Sleepy Hollow,
Planet of the Apes
and
Big Fish.
He recently served as Associate Producer on
Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory and
Corpse Bride.
Derek is currently working as Associate Producer on
Sweeney Todd.
By looking at Derek’s compilation of work, it is clear that he has the
skill, creativity, and drive to show the world his capabilities. From
distinct works like
Creep
and
The Upper Hand
to the bizarrely creative
The Day the Dolls Struck
Back!,
Derek has entertained audiences with his exciting and unique style of
storytelling. The year 2006 proved to be Derek's most productive yet,
serving as director and producer of two music videos, as well as the short
film Fear Protocol (coming soon).
The Minor Prophets – Writers and Actors
The Minor Prophets are Brian Gillin, David Amadio, Steve Kuzmick, and Gil Damon. They grew up in the Philadelphia suburbs, attending both high school and University together.
In the summer of 2001, the foursome wrote and directed their first short film, Keg Runners. Since then, they have produced over 25 short films, many of which have
screened at the Trocadero Theatre, the Bryn Mawr Film Institute, and New York’s Variety Underground. Two of their shorts, The Devil’s Handyman and Stripper Come Home, debuted at the 14th and 15th Annual Philadelphia Film Festivals. The Minor Prophets have also performed six full-length shows at select venues in Philadelphia, New York, and Atlantic City.
Philadelphia Weekly’s Maggie Serota claims The Minor Prophets “do all they can to flout convention.” The Triangle’s Mishael Devlin calls their short films “absurdity in motion.” The Delaware County Daily Times admits they’re “hard to pigeonhole.” And The Philadelphia Inquirer’s A.D. Amorosi declares the troupe “whoopsie good fun.”
In addition to 4th and 99, The Minor Prophets recently scripted the pilot episode for their yet-to-be pitched TV series, The Minor Prophets Present.

Matthew McGrory 1973-2005
I was very saddened to hear the news of Matt's passing yesterday. He was born a month after me in the town next door to where I grew up. We went to the same college - everyone knew of him. I didn't meet Matt until 2002 when he was cast as Karl the Giant in Big Fish. I enjoyed being able to talk about West Chester University and Philadelphia during our months in Alabama. He was more than just a giant - he was a talented and extremely intelligent person with a big heart.
He will be missed.

What a mad couple of weeks it has been. T.D. traveled to London to play the premiere party for Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. On their down time they played 3 additional shows and spent 2 days recording at the world famous Air Studios. Wait until you hear the new tracks! New songs = new videos so stay tuned.

“There’s a scene where each child is reading a portion of the golden ticket,” said Derek Frey, CCF’s associate producer and director of all of TD’s rock videos. “On the golden ticket, there are instructions on how they are to enter the chocolate factory on a particular date and time. It’s almost like a montage sequence where each child is in their own environment at home. Mike Teavee is into violent videogames and wears a shirt picturing a bloodied skull. He’s kind of a weird techie-punk kid who thinks he knows it all. He has a very large-screen TV behind him which is supposed to represent what he would be watching. And the ‘Mr. Quiet’ video fits into the genre of what he would watch.”
While it may appear that Burton included the video clip as a favor to Frey, a longtime associate who is also a friend and benefactor of TD’s, the famed filmmaker says that is definitely not the case. He says that he was looking for a thrash-metal video to play while introducing Mike Teavee, the kid who is ultimately shrunk by Wonkavision. “I watched some of the music videos sent from Warner Brothers,” Burton explained. “None of them fit the bill. Derek asked me to have a look at the ‘Mr. Quiet’ video. I thought the ending was perfect for the scene in the film -- quick editing, kind of horror-campy. The music sounded very heavy metal, which was what I was looking for. It was impressive. I kind of liked the fact that they're not recognizable yet and thought this could help them get to the next step.” TD also gets a music credit at the end of the movie. Pretty heady stuff for an indie rock band from Hawaii, said guitarist-vocalist Trever Veilleux. “Just that alone is exciting and is an honor,” he mused. “It seems like whenever we do anything, like the ‘Mr. Quiet’ video, people ask, ‘What are you going to do with it?’ That question doesn’t really cross our minds. The creative process is what inspires us and what drives us. So whenever anybody asked what we were going to do with this video, we couldn’t answer them. Then, a year later, it’s in a major motion picture. Now, what that means for our future -- and I get asked that a lot -- I have no idea, and it’s not really something that I spend a lot of energy thinking about.” Burton, who met TD vocalist-alto saxophonist RaVani Flood while filming the remake of “Planet of the Apes” on the Big Island, eventually saw the band play in London, where CCF was filmed and where TD recorded and played club gigs this spring. Burton was impressed enough to ask TD to play the CCF London premiere party July 17. “They just look like these nice people that are
going to perform pleasant songs,” Burton said of TD’s set at Caernavon
Castle, a rock club in London’s Camden section. “Then they rip into an
intense 30-minute set giving it everything. It was all-out rock.
Someone next to me called them (bleeping) demons. I'm pretty sure
that’s a positive comment in the UK.”
Actually, that someone was David Arnold, a Grammy-winning British film composer and record producer whose film soundtracks include the last three James Bond movies and whose production résumé includes Bjork, Aimee Mann, Damien Rice, Pulp, Iggy Pop, k.d. lang, Chrissie Hynde and Garbage. Arnold was struck by TD’s eclecticism. “Amongst the funk, rock, soul, folk, punk, jazz
and R&B chaos there is a perverted Veilleux said that the band will not be deterred by Thursday’s horrific bus and metro train bombings by terrorists. “That’s not something that’s likely to happen in Hilo, but it could have happened anywhere,” he reflected. “You can’t let things like that stop you.” And while TD has an invitation to play the premiere -- an honor usually reserved for a Warner Bros. act -- they will have to pay their own way to London. The band is putting on its fundraising “Chocolate Fantasy Party” tonight at 9 p.m. at Uncle Mikey’s in the Waiakea Villas. Other bands on the bill are Downstar, Shiva and Augustine. Tickets are $10 advance at CD Wizard and Rock Island Gallery, $15 at the door. The night has a chocolate theme. Admission includes a raffle ticket for a chance to win Tim Burton t-shirts, books, DVDs, and other movie memorabilia. “It’s going to be fun performing with three really good bands that we’ve never played with,” Veilleux said. “We’re putting a lot more energy into this show than just a regular club gig. We’re aiming to make it an event.” |

"MR. QUIET" SHOOTS TO KILL
Derek joined forces with TD once again in January to direct a video for the metal inspired track "Mr. Quiet". If you haven't checked out the song yet, you can listen to it HERE. Or better yet, pick yourself up a copy of their new CD "Butter". You won't regret it.
Shooting of the video took place over 2 very late nights at an undisclosed location in Hilo, Hawaii. A very special thank you to everyone who helped make the project happen. It will most definitely be TD's most extravagant music video to date.
Derek also directed an 8 camera shoot of TD's "Butter" release concert, held at the Palace Theater in Hilo on January 10th. Tracks from the shoot will be included in a TD Rockumentary slated for completion later this year.

The next eIFCT 2002-2003 World Tour, featuring Lazer Film Productions "Creep" reached Los Angeles in June. The event took place May 30th, May 31st, and June 3rd at the Ince Screening Room at Sony's Culver Studios- 9336 West Washington Blvd.

"CREEP" LEAVES TORONTO & PARIS IN SHOCK & AWE
We wanted to write and
let you know that the festival screenings in Toronto
at the CN Tower and Canadian Broadcast Centre last weekend went
exceptionally well. "Creep" was a great fit into our "Suspense, Fear
and
Surprise" series which was very popular with the audience. Both the CBC and
The Maple Leaf Theatre at the CN Tower proved exciting locations for the
festival- we had video screens announcing the festival throughout the Tower,
which looked great. It was a cloudy day Friday, but many filmmakers still
took advantage of the free trip to the top of the CN Tower which was
included with the IFCT festival ticket. Despite the war and protests even
outside some of our venues(!) during some of the festival, we had very
healthy turnouts both days. On Saturday, we reached standing room capacity
in more than a few screenings at the Canadian Broadcast Centre

Creep" was a part of the International Festival of Cinema and Technology’s 2003 World Tour. The tour took place in Los Angeles, New York City, Toronto, Ottawa, Paris, and London.

Screening Room (Universal-Paramount), London, England, The CN Tower (Canada's Wonder of
